Ashley Sheekey
Site designed in collaboration with Chris Corby
Ashley Sheekey is an artist based in Brighton, UK.
I make work (drawings, ceramics, writing, collaborative projects) that explores my interest in the urban environment. I am especially intrigued by the overlap between public and private space, and the presence of generous and hostile design.
At the moment
Since spending the summer of 2024 in Denmark as an apprentice at Hjorths Fabrik — a ceramic factory and museum that dates back to mid-19th century — I am back in my own studio developing a collection of tableware. For a while I have been looking to settle on a few functional forms that satisfy me, and will be using the skills learned on my apprenticeship to make this happen. So far I've pinned down a coffee cup and a couple of bowl varieties which I've been using and living with for the last few months. So far so good!
I am very happy to continue working with The House, most recently completing a commission for a pair of sconces based on a little wall tile I made a couple of years ago.
Wonderful Twofolde studio and store are now stocking a selection of my work at their beautiful shop over in Kemptown (Brighton, UK). The only place to get my 2025 collection of xmas baubles!
I also (slowly!) make work within my ongoing collaborative project, COMMON PLACE.
