Pair of Black and White Slip-Painted Cups

Two small stoneware cups, painted in black and off-white slips before being fired and finished with a glossy transparent glaze.

One of the cups has a subtle incised detail that flows around its base, made by scratching a needle through the painted slip before the pot was fired. Simple, unglazed foot rings lift the base of the cups away from the surface they sit on, emphasising their lightness. Nice for a little cup of wine :)
