Slip-Laden Vase

This piece has been made as part of an ongoing exploration into displaying dried and freshly cut flowers together. Inspired by the railings throughout Brighton & Hove, and the way plants and grasses grow up and around them during the summer.

Decorated across its surface with slip before being glazed, the work has a laden and textured surface that is informed by the ironwork railings which themselves are coated in countless layers of paint, altering their shape over the years.

The vase holds water in its top and mid sections, with multiple openings to place stems in. The foot of the piece is hollow, inviting the placement of dried flowers at its base.
